Case study

Pilates Realm: booked from a page she owns, built from Kent.

Case study: a Toronto Pilates instructor moved off a website builder to pilatesrealm.com, with a booking flow, her own prices and photographs, and the AI-search foundations. Built and launched remotely.

The business before

Pilates Realm offers private, duet and online Pilates in Toronto with a STOTT PILATES certified instructor, from CAD 70 a session, her own public price.

The site sat on a website builder, on the builder's terms. The instructor did not own the domain the site lived on, and the pages could not be built to be found the way a local search needs.

What was built

A site she owns at pilatesrealm.com, with a booking flow, her own prices, her biography and her own photographs. The search and AI-search foundations that every site I build ships with, so a search for Pilates in her part of the world can find her and an AI assistant can read her facts in her words.

Delivered remotely from Kent, without a single in-person meeting.

The go-live, checked from a second machine

Pointing a domain at a new site is the moment that matters, and it has a trap. The machine that makes the change keeps seeing the old site for up to an hour, because its own address book has not caught up yet.

So the go-live was verified from a second machine, on a different network, reading the server's own headers and the page title, not a status code. Only when that machine saw the new site was it reported live.

What was fixed that nobody had noticed

Two things, both found by a sweep of every sentence and every script before launch. A demonstration disclaimer that would have appeared on every live page, left over from the review build. And a booking confirmation email that carried a placeholder phone number, which real clients would have received.

Neither would have shown up in a design review. Both would have been the first thing a new client saw. That sweep is now part of every launch.

What I would do next

Search Console, then the booking count. The foundations are in; the next step is reading what Google does with them over the coming weeks and finishing her Google Business Profile with the booking link on it, so the search becomes a session without a detour.
